The whisky distillery began production in 2015 and gifted their first charity barrel to the Royal Flying Doctors Service, which is located next to the business at the Launceston Airport.
Production manager Chris Condon said the team had planned to make the barrel donation an annual tradition with this year’s charity selection inspired by their mascot and friend ‘Angus the distillery dog’.
Launceston Distillery is the second distillery Angus has “worked” at and Mr Condon said he was a popular member of the team.
“He’s eight-years-old and he’s been with us since day one, so he’s actually quite an experienced distillery dog,” Mr Condon said.
“He’s here everyday when we are running the stills, welcoming people at the door, and he has actually donated a lot of his toys to the RSPCA.
“So it just made sense to us to choose the RSPCA for this year’s donation.”
The barrel, which features a personalised gold plaque, was presented to RSPCA Tasmania this week.
The organisation will raise funds by selling the whisky, which will mature over the next two years.
RSPCA Tasmania marketing and fundraising coordinator Melanie Knight said the whisky would also be ready in time for the organisation’s 140 year celebrations.
“It’s a really beautiful birthday present and we’re really grateful to have such a beautiful product to help celebrate such an important milestone for the RSPCA,” she said.
“We really appreciate local community support and we love the idea of helping to promote an amazing local product.”
Mr Condon said he hoped the barrel donation would help the non-profit organisation raise more than $5000.
“It’s our way of giving back to our local community,” he said.
“So we’re hoping people will purchase bottles from the barrel and help raise funds for the RSPCA.”
