Louise Allerton spent more than 15 years living and working in remote indigenous communities, an experience which she said profoundly shaped her relationship to landscape, community and culture.
“I’ve lived in remote Australia...for a long time and that pretty much changed my idea of landscape and environment, the land and our connection to it.” she said.
Cataract Gorge and the Tamar River have become focal points of Allerton’s environment and wilderness themed residency.
“I’ve been taking lots of shots in the Gorge, you are so lucky to have it...I can see why Launcestonians love the Gorge” she said.
Allerton will speak at the College of Arts lecture theatre 1A181 on Thursday from 12.30pm to 1.30pm. She will also exhibit some of the works from her residency at the college from October 11.
