The 2013 South Launceston TSL premiership player will replace Ben Chugg at the helm in 2017 with a focus firmly on returning the Tigers to their title-holding days.
President David Blair said Reinmuth, 26, would bring the level of professionalism the Northern Midlands outfit needed to take the next step forward.
“We have focused heavily on a one club culture under Ben in the past two years and I believe Tom will continue that,” Blair said. “Tom is very organised and knows what he wants, which is something that impressed us all.”
Blair said Chugg would remain at Longford in a development role and that Anthony Williams and Roydon Peters would continue to coach the reserves and under-18s, respectively
Reinmuth was chased by several NTFA clubs after playing with Lilydale last season with good mate and coach Thane Bardenhagen as he was unable to fully commit due to a lengthy overseas holiday.
However, he said he was committed to generating “sustainable success” at Tigerland. Longford missed out on finals last season, finishing sixth with an 8-8 win-loss record. “The club have a really appealing list with a good mix of younger and more experienced guys…. they seem like a well balanced side,” he said.
“The appetite to work with the list was the overriding fact and there was a bit of a decision to make between a couple of other clubs.”
The key-position utility said he would look to recruit experienced players to the club to guide the youth on deck. “I’ve been lucky enough to meet a lot of good people through football and hopefully there are people who wish to join me out at Longford,” Reinmuth said.
“The main thing for me is getting last year’s players re-signed, I’m looking forward to working with them on how they can improve their footy for us to take the next step.”
He said his assistant coaches and recruits would be named in coming weeks.
