Murray has been the subject of an internal inquiry following allegations from chief racing steward Anthony O’Connell related to workplace bullying.
As a result, O’Connell has been off work for more than two months.
A statement from Racing Minister Jeremy Rockliff said: “Tony has worked tirelessly to ensure the professional standards of Tasmania’s racing industry are of the highest level and I know he regarded his own integrity and that of the industry incredibly highly, and he can be justly proud of his contribution to the industry.”
The statement said Murray’s resignation was “for family and personal reasons” and that a recruitment process will begin to replace him. Until then, the functions of the office will be undertaken by the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment.
