“It’s a great way for us to be in touch with the local community representative and to hear from them first hand,” Premier Will Hodgman said.
Dorset Mayor Greg Howard said they had a frank and open discussion. He highlighted improving road infrastructure was a key priority in improving economic outcomes in the North East, particularly improving vital freight road, the Sidling.
“It’s certainly our view as council that the major freight road out of the North East has to be the Sidling,” he said.
The visit came on the back of an announcement by the government that councils will be able to access interest free loans for council initiated projects. Alderman Howard said they have some projects in the pipeline.
“We’ve certainly got a lot of infrastructure projects that we’ve had listed in our ten year plan that we can bring forward and that will improve the lot of the people in the North East,” he said.
