Zambrero Launceston opened its doors on Tuesday with the first 1000 visitors taking home a free burrito.
State operations manager Stuart Churton said it was an exciting day for the food chain which already has restaurants in Devonport and Hobart.
“We plan to open 10 in total in Tasmania,” he said.
Zambrero has more than 135 franchises worldwide and has a global mission to “beat world hunger”.
“Our motto is “Mexican with a mission” and for every meal purchased a meal is donated,” Mr Churton said.
So far Zambrero has donated more than 10 million meals, with a goal of one billion by 2025.
The Launceston restaurant will be open seven days a week, from noon until late and is located on the corner of York and Bathurst Streets.
