Tim Watson of the Launceston Aquatic Club said the recommendation was a substantial improvement the original suggestion but it only went part of the way.
He asked councillors to consider an amendment to the recommendation and change off peak timing from to to 6.30pm or 6pm.
”The clubs aren't asking for a handout here, what we’re asking for is a more realistic pricing structure. The peak pricing on weekdays is still about 50 per cent dearer that what you would be paying in Victoria,” he said.
Alderman Hugh McKenzie moved an amendment as requested by the speakers, to change the off peak time on weekdays to 6.30pm.
The change will reduce annual revenue from lane hire by swimming clubs by $5038 in the first year.
