The UTas athlete came 33rd in the Berlin Marathon, with an official time of 2:20.28, just one second outside his PB set in Japan last year.

“Not quite the time I wanted but it was still ok,” said Harris, who went through halfway at 69:27.

“Couldn't quite maintain the pace as it started to get deep into the race but managed to go past the lead girl inside the last klilometre.”

Harris said it was “incredible” hearing the roars of the German crowd which helped him over the final few kilometres.

“It's been a decent campaign with national medals in the half marathon and national records in the 25,000 and 30,000m,” he said.

“Thirty kilometres seems like my zone right now, the marathon is 30 minutes too far!”
