Lonergan continued to live in the Launceston area, but had restricted contact with the TSL club amid his WADA doping suspension.
“He’s been able to come to the ground to watch games and he’s watched our development league play through the finals,” O’Donoghue said.
“But he’s been limited of what he can do around the club – pretty much nothing.
“We were able to keep in contact to keep up the rapport, but other than that pretty not much at all.
“It’s been very restrictive of what he’s allowed to do.”
The former Essendon and Richmond player was unable to attend the club announcement on Monday at Windsor Park over a media sanction in the conditions of his ban.
O’Donoghue said the club felt fortunate to retain Lonergan until the end of 2019.
“We are lucky he hasn’t taken off and picked up another job somewhere. He’s been very loyal to us,” he said.
