Featuring 22 events over a jam-packed five day schedule, the festival will run across nine different venues from October 10 to 14.
Organiser Alex Morse said she felt privileged to be bringing the event to Tasmania and helping support older adults in the Meander Valley.
“It’s a brand new event for Tassie,” Mrs Morse said.
“There is one in Port Macquarie but this one is actually based on the international Creative Ageing Festival which is called Illuminate and it’s in Scotland.
“The crux of the festival is about supporting older adults to live their best life as they get older, and one way to do that is through creative arts so we focus on music, fine arts, drama, movement, dance and film.”
The festival will get under way on the Monday with a wine and cheese evening at Aged Care Deloraine home Grenoch, which is set to host an art gallery for the first time.
The gallery will feature work from professional and amateur artists from across the state, and will be open to the community throughout the week.
Mrs Morse said she was also keenly anticipating a Ukulele For Fun session and a special photographic exhibition.
“One of the really wonderful events is being put on by the Deloraine Hospital and Deloraine House, it’s called Life Portraits and it’s a collection of photographs taken of significant seniors in the community.
“They're really quite incredible, and there's a life story to go with each of them.”
Mrs Morse said organisers were hoping to run the event again next year should this year’s instalment prove a success.
“It’s a really great thing and we hope that it's really successful and everyone loves it and we can continue to do it.
“The idea of supporting older adults in the community is something that's really significant so wouldn't it be wonderful to do this across the whole state.”
