Operating on a five hectare block at 832 Hobart Road, the facility would also include 22 campsites, two caretakers’ units, an amenities block and four outdoor signs.
Facility visitors would also have access to parking space.
Proposed by A and K Futures, the development would be the closest accommodation facility to Launceston Airport.
Northern Midlands mayor David Downie said he expected the facility would give tourists another accommodation option and be ideal for visitors preferring to stay close to the airport.
“It’s another business helping to cater for tourists which keeps people in the area,” Cr Downie said.
“It should make it more convenient so if people have a need to stay near the airport they've got that option so that's a good thing.
“This will be the closest accommodation to the airport there will be, it will be a cheaper option too.”
The proposal received a handful of representations from nearby landowners, who held concerns about outdoor lighting spill, increased noise and visual impacts.
Cr Downie said he hoped such fears had been relieved in the application process.
“Council has approved it, I think there's a period people have got to object to council's decision but hopefully their concerns have been alleviated.”
Cr Downie said it was pleasing to have another development taking place just outside the TRANSlink Precinct, which has become a popular location for industry over recent years.
“It's interesting how to airport is still getting an increase in numbers - some of those people will be tourists and this facility is more infrastructure put in to cater for the tourists so it’s all healthy.
“Businesses are being attracted to that area, that's ongoing, and there's been a steady increase in development there, but that's more to do with industry.”
It is unclear how soon work will begin on developing the facility.
