This year marks the 25th Festival of Dance. The festival first began in 1991, gathering 300 entries. It has grown enormously since, this year boasting over 2000 entries.
The festival features a broad range of dancing disciplines including jazz, tap, classical, broadway and theatrical.
Festival of Dance president Kim Riley said the standard of competition has been high.
“We’re so lucky, we have so many talented kids in Launceston and surrounding suburbs and down the coast and we draw competitors from all over the state,” she said.
Ms Riley said the ten day festival is a boost to the local economy. The festival is open to spectators, with three sessions each day at 8.30am, 1pm and 7pm.
“[It’s] a great afternoons entertainment to come in and watch a section,” Ms Riley said.
The festival is at the Princess Theatre from Friday, September 23 to Saturday October 21.
