Quit4october assists smokers to quit through interactive programs, providing them with advice, and encouraging them to seek support through their GP and pharmacist.

Lung Foundation Australia chief executive Heather Allan launched the pilot program in Tasmania on Friday, alongside Launceston Mayor Albert Van Zetten and Health Minister Michael Ferguson. 

Also at the launch was Launceston resident Craig Turner, 67, who said he hoped the program would support him to quit, after more than 50 years as a smoker.

Mr Ferguson said the pilot program was among a host of planned measures intended to reduce smoking rates, including permanent marketing campaigns, tripling tobacco seller licencing fees, and compulsory quit information at point of sale.
