Jeremy Edwards is on a Hockey Australia high performance scholarship in Perth where Josh Beltz will also soon be heading with both knocking on the Kookaburras’ dressing room door.
Beltz, who is in rehab from hip surgery, will not play in AHL but is hoping to be fit for the junior world cup in India in December.
Meanwhile, Jack Welch was selected in the under-21 national squad to contest the Sultan of Johor Cup in Malaysia in October, Kurt Mackey is in the national development squad and Amelia Spence and Maddie Murphy are pushing for selection in national women’s teams.
“There are a lot of positive signs coming through and it is great to see Tasmania with such strength,” Tasmanian Institute of Sport coach Andrew McDonald said.
“We are continuing to try and expose our players to as high a level of hockey as possible.
“As is often the case there will probably be a number of post-Olympic retirements and positions opening up.”
