Jake Birtwhistle finishes 39th at the International Triathlon Union grand final in Mexico.

A desperate plea for help and a borrowed bike saw Launceston’s Jake Birtwhistle finish 39th at the International Triathlon Union grand final in Cozumel, Mexico. The under-23 world champion fought back strongly after a bad swim leg to storm home in the run. Rio Olympian Ryan Bailie was the highest placed Aussie in sixth, behind South African winner Henri Schoeman.
