A resident living at the Cataract Apartments has raised objections to the creation of an 80 vehicle car park, to be built as stage one of the Chromy Group’s hotel at the TRC site.

The plans are advertised on the City of Launceston’s website for public comment, and show how four dwellings with be demolished the make way to for new car park.

Developers wrote in the planning application that the car park will lower demand for on-street parking for visitors to the Penny Royal complex, the TRC hotel, nearby restaurants and users of Kings Park precinct.

But resident Ruth Haw said there had been no consultation with the 15 apartment owners about the change of use of the area, including a shared easement used for traffic entering from Margaret Street.

“At no point in any way shape or form have we been approached for consultation by the developer [and] in such a short time frame we are able not to adequately assess very complex plans and respond in any way other than rapid,” she said.
