Nick Cave’s teen son died in a tragic accident.
As a musician, an artist, this is Cave’s natural response to life and all that it throws up.
Together with the Bad Seeds, he has created a soundtrack to grief. But also, to hope. It’s an honest snapshot of the unimaginable.
While it is a tragedy that such an album had to be made, but there is no one better to have made it.
There is not a lot of dissection to be made around this release, no commentary to add, because those who are familiar with Cave and his band will already have some idea of the raw depths that he can plumb.
As a whole, it’s masterful. Individually, tracks like Rings of Saturn, Magneto, and the title track are highlights.
