Put simply – F1 2016 is not the best looking car racing game. It doesn’t even run a close second. In fact it's quite a way behind the genre leaders like Forza and Gran Turismo.
But if you love F1 racing and you want to immerse yourself in the whole formula one experience, you won't find this level of racing realism anywhere else on a console.
Strategy can play a huge part in whether you succeed in F1 2016.
You need to juggle real-world issues like tyre degradation and fuel load - the issues that in the real world decide whether you win or lose.
There's a new physics model incorporated into the gameplay, which means that while it may not look a million dollars, your car will handle like a finely tuned racing car that's worth twice that.
It's also nice to know that the tweaks and changes you make in the garage actually have an impact out on the track.
And speaking of tracks, there are all 22 circuits featured in the game, as well as all 11 professional teams and 22 drivers.
In a bonus for genuine fans of the F1 series, Codemasters has brought back the full career mode. They've also brought back the safety car - albeit a virtual one - but that does introduce a number of variables to your strategy.
Codemasters is also keen to spruik the inclusion of the formation lap. It doesn't serve much purpose other than making the experience feel more realistic - oh and warming up your tyres. And that’s important because thanks to that improved physics we discussed earlier, cold tyres simply will not provide you with the same level of grip as warm tyres.
There are all the usual in-game settings that can help you do things like corner, brake, change gears and steer if you’re a relative novice.
Overall, F1 2016 is excellent. From a pure gaming experience, it’s thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish.
