Launceston dance troupe STOMPIN is taking over Dicky White’s Lane on Thursday night. They’ll be showing off a preview of their new work Face Value. The event is a fundraiser for the company’s annual journey to Hobart for Tasmania’s festival of dance, Salamanca Moves. Onsite, there will be games (yes, with prizes!), a cash bar and some nibbles provided. It all kicks off at 7pm, and entry is $20, and $15 for concession card holders.
The September edition of Fresh Comedy is here, with Sydney’s LUKE HEGGIE taking the stage as the headline act. You might recognise Heggie from the Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s Allstars Gala, or ABC TV’s Comedy Up Late. He’ll be supported by local funny folk Mick Davis, Dan Taylor, and Jake Baylis. Doors open at 7.30pm, and the gig kicks off at 8.30pm. Australian artist PAUL DEMPSEY is in the state this week on his Strange Loop tour. It kicks off on Thursday at Devonport at the Tapas Lounge Bar, before heading to Launceston’s Country Club Tasmania on Friday night, and Hobart’s Republic Bar on Saturday night. Tickets for Thursday and Friday are available through moshtix.com.au, and Launceston’s tickets can be found at tixtas.com.au
Punk rock icon HENRY ROLLINS takes his national spoken word tour to Hobart this weekend. An Evening with Henry Rollins is on at Hobart’s Theatre Royal on Saturday night, from 8pm. He was last in the state on his 2012 sold-out spoken word tour. A controversial personality with an opinion on just about everything, Rollins’ show is sure to leave an impression. You can nab your tickets for a few cents shy of $60 at the venue’s website.
Launceston is set to get a visit all the way from Belfast on Sunday. Dj PHIL KIERAN is the headline act for Our House 026. Kieran will be supported by Matty C, George Finch, NeoBi, Spicer, and Gypsy. It all kicks off at 5pm on Sunday at Our House.
Looking ahead a few weeks, VERA BLUE is coming to town. The Sydney-based artist will play in Launceston on October 7 at Club 54. Tickets are available now through Oztix.
