It’s the whole American football thing. It must be how American gamers feel about AFL football and cricket.
If you’re a fan of gridiron, as people outside of the US call it, then there’s a lot to be excited about with the latest incarnation in the franchise, Madden 17.
Simply, it’s the best Madden game in years.
EA Sports has made some very important modifications and tweaks in terms of gameplay. To the more dedicated Madden gamer, that means the offenses and defences are more evenly balanced, and the passing game has been wound back a little, while more emphasis has been placed on the running game.
The changes to the gameplay have strengthened that too.
For example, when you’re in possession of the game now, you have a button option for various moves you can make, such as spinning away from an opponent or palming him off. It’s all about getting the timing just right. The running game has been given more value now, which makes the whole experience more realistic.
If you really want to get serious about playing Madden 17, then an intimate knowledge of the teams and players - their strengths and weaknesses will go a long way to giving you the edge over other competitors.
Another strength of the game is the knowledge now that you can really put your trust in your AI teammates, which is something you may have not had in the past.
Franchise mode is the best mode for players here – what is often referred to as the single player campaign. There’s a sense of satisfaction you get out of playing as single team and helping develop them over a number of seasons.
You will, however, need to be committed. A game can take up to an hour to play in real-time. The graphics are solid, while the commentary can be a little bland and boring, although they do a great job of calling the game.
If you love Madden games, then there’s a lot to like about this latest offering. One could almost say it’s a must have.
