Council put its urban design and traffic management strategy into a second stage of community consultation this week, releasing a 22-question survey detailing possible upgrades to the town centre.
The touted upgrades arose from Tasmanian consultancy GHD's first stage of community consultation in June.
Northern Midlands mayor David Downie said the town’s emergence as an “economic hotspot” meant it was important council worked to make the area as safe and functional as possible.
“There's been a substantial increase in traffic pulling up in Campbell Town which creates traffic issues and council wants to see if there's a better way of doing things,” Cr Downie said.
“There’s been increased business activity to coffee shops and other shops which has caused more traffic to stop there, so it's imperative that we look at it and see if we can adopt a better traffic strategy to improve the traffic through the town.”
Potential changes touted in the survey are predominantly centralised to High Street and nearby parks and ovals, with a focus on streetscape improvements, parking management and pedestrian movement.
Among other things, the survey asks respondents to consider the merits of an outdoor plaza outside Town Hall, expanded toilet facilities in Valentine’s Park and replacing angled parking spaces in High Street with parallel parking spaces.
Even the iconic Campbell Town log is up for discussion, with one suggestion proposing the log take on a new life as the centrepiece of an upgraded playground facility.
Cr Downie said the most important thing was for Campbell Town residents to have their say in the future of the town.
“We've got success and we want to keep that success going.
“The centre of Campbell Town has been a growth area in previous years, it's a little economic hotspot and by having those businesses there it means more amenities for the people in the local area to use and it's also great because it provides jobs for people in the area.”
