While not reaching the torrential levels of the Lambton Jaffas game, rain increased in force throughout normal and extra time, turning the game into a slog-fest.for both the players and 3168 fans.
To be fair to the players and in particular the Bentleigh Greens team, the skill level was still impressive, especially from wingers Kieran Dover and Kamal Ibrahim.
Their quick-passing build-up play from the back threatened to breach the Strikers defences on several but occasions, but the home side continued to hold firm.
The crowd was in fine form all night, urging Devonport on and quickly offering their advice to the Bentleigh team when tempers flared late.
There was even drama before the game when Bentleigh arrived at the airport, with two of the players’ bags going missing and an SOS put out for any spare boots and shin pads to be brought to the ground.
