Michael Astell continued his recent good form by winning the annual Launceston City Cycling Club race from Deloraine to Launceston.

Astell won a bunch sprint and took fastest time from Bernie Sulzberger, Adam Hartley and Jason Rigg.
Blair Austin rode well to finish with the leaders and win B Grade while Simon Price put in the ride of the day to win C grade and also finish with the leaders.
In the women’s race, Morgan Gillon returned to form with a good win from impressive under-17 Rebecca Bye.
Ingrid Oliver just failed to catch them and was rewarded with third place and fastest time.
In the junior handicaps, sisters Zoe (under-13) and Amy (under-15) Wright took the honours.
The next race will be the silver wheels at Hillwood on September 24.

Northern vets
Forty Northern veterans could sense spring in the air as they took on three laps of the 16.5-kilometre loop from Bishopsbourne via Green Rises Road and Armstrong’s Lane.
King of the mountain points were on offer on each lap which stretched the groups along Armstrong’s Lane.
All grades came back together for the finish, resulting in bunch sprints.
In the combined A/B grade race, Win Maher was the strongest rider, taking out A grade.
Mark Tate had another good win in B grade from Scott Murchison and Ricky Allen.
Simon Donovan looked impressive in the C grade sprint, winning by a few bike lengths from Lindsay Malley and Mark Bugg.
Meanwhile Coen De Gier won D grade from Brendan Spurr and Dean Mason.
Richard Wells continued his good form, winning E grade from Michael Dalton and Ward Totham.
In an impressive show of strength, te also took all 15 KOM points on offer in his grade.
Brian Hillier rode well again to take out the combined F/G grade race.
Next week’s race is at Deloraine.
