The inaugural Tri-Nut conference will encompass the hazelnut, walnut and chestnut industries and more than 120 delegates are expected to attend over three days.
The joint conference is the brainchild of Chestnuts Australia, Hazelnut Growers of Australia and the Australian Walnut Industry Association who banded together to present speakers and topics that would affect all three industries.
“The combined conference has allowed the industry to bring high quality speakers from overseas, the mainland and from within Tasmania to present on topics of importance to all three industries,” Chestnuts Australia president Brian Casey said.
Each industry usually holds its own conference separately in September or October each year.
This year guest speakers include: Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) agriculture commissioner Mick Keogh, Wadia Kandula from Lincoln University and Alan Mathewson from The Hazelnut Company.
“The mix of topics covering government policies, technical industry issues and specialist research has given the program and exciting mix,” Australian Walnut Industry Association president Michael Lang said.
The Tri-Nut conference will be held on September 2-4 at Aspect Tamar Valley Resort, Grindelwald. Local producers of those interested in growing nuts can register by contacting Trevor Ranford on 0417 809 172.
