Supporters and Young Lions spent three hours placing calls to businesses across Tasmania, asking them to pledge a job for a young person.
Just ten minutes into the campaign several businesses had already pledged a job. Whitelion events and partnerships co-ordinator Narelle Martin was confident of reaching the target of 30 jobs.
“We’ve had huge success in the last couple of years of doing it over 30 days,” she said. This is the first time the time limit is just three hours.
Ms Martin said the event is a chance to open a dialogue with local businesses.
“What we’re wanting to have is that conversation with businesses about our young people, that they’ve got great potential you just need to give them a go,” she said.
“You find that once we get one young person into the business they're like, ‘Right, I want another one’.”
