Lake explores the profiles of two Tasmanian craftsmen who made the Peddle chair, George Peddle and his brother-in-law, Harry Hearn in his book, The Men Who Made the Celebrated Chairs: Windsor Chair Making in Tasmania.
“Peddle chairs have touched the lives of many Tasmanians and are arguably Tasmania’s best-known antiques,” Lake said. “Antique furniture is usually relentlessly anonymous...this is not the case with Pelle chairs.”
The book launched at the Queen Victoria Art Gallery on Sunday. The Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery is featuring an exhibition highlighting the story of the Peddle chair.
Lake’s book will be available for purchase from bookstores around Launceston.
