But with a rushed kick forward into their forward 50, Charles Ritchie took one of the most important marks he will ever take. 

Ritchie took possession 40m out on a tough angle and with his team down by one point the experienced defender kicked straight through the middle to put his side up by five points with only seconds left on the clock.

With that kick in what was easily one of the games of the season, Latrobe secured the first spot in the 2016 NWFL grand final with a 7.17 (59) to 7.12 (54) win over Penguin. 

The Demons came out well in the opening quarter on their home ground and it was the leaders standing up early.

Josh Holland and Ryan Keep kicked early goals for the Demons while Two Blues forward Chris McDonald got on the board early as well. 

Penguin lifted in the second and third terms and in another contested game, tackling was high on the list. 

Only two goals were kicked in the third term as the Two Blues again led by one point going into a big final term. 

Ryan Keep kicked his second to put the Demons in front early in the quarter before heavy rain started to fall.  

But the decision to move Penguin’s Damon Smith forward proved beneficial as he booted back-to-back goals to put the Two Blues up by nine points.

But another snap from Boon brought the margin back to just two points with only a few minutes remaining before Ritchie took the all important mark inside 50 in the dying seconds.
