The two teams were level at the half time break, with goals for Baptists Jarrod Poke and Devonport’s Daniel Ford.
Four minutes into the second half the Subbies opened the gap with Mark Wicks slipping one past the keeper, with Declan Filler adding another minutes later giving the visitors a solid lead.
Baptist rallied to the challenge soaking up the Subbies attack and responding with forays into the attacking circle.
The hard work paid off when Angus Yeates found the net adding plenty of urgency to the Baptist endeavours.
A typical hard-fought arm wrestle ensued as the sides probed the circle looking for an advantage, a penalty corner conversion for Baptist coach Matt Selby sending the teams to extra time golden goal playoff.
Seven and half minutes of nine men and frantic play with no score left the teams with seven men for the next period of play.
Baptist’s Anthony Lockett found space to be one on one with the keeper, slipping the ball past on the right post to give the team the win and end the Subbies season.
In Launceston, South Launceston played Queechy for the passage to the grand final for the winner and the double chance for the loser.
South started strongly posting their first seven minutes in when Kurt Budgeon pounced on a loose ball, edging it around keeper Nick Green.
The Q’s kept plenty of pressure on South attack in an effort to stop runaway scores while still mounting solid attacks of their own.
The Suns Sam Phillips made a solid run into the Q’s circle and finished with another that he slipped under the keeper giving them a two goal lead.
To their credit the Q’s kept playing pressure hockey, with the ball being hotly contested by both sides, and as time ran down, a penalty corner conversion for Ryan Horne sent them to the break trailing by one.
A much tighter marking game for the second half with missed chances for both teams kept the crowd enthralled, with no further additions to the score.
