The white water kayaking event was cancelled last year due to low water levels, but this year saw 18 competitors battle it out across a range of categories on grade 3 and 4 rapids (out of 6 grades)
“It’s a fairly difficult river, no big waterfalls or anything but it's quite technical,” Kayak4Play North Esk Paddle Fest organiser Isaac Carter said.
The event saw individuals and teams compete in a mass start race, team race, slalom event, a BoaterCross race and for the first time a beginners race.
The event has been running for five years and was started to offer a kayaking festival in Tasmania similar to those seen in Northern America and Canada.

Mr Carter encourages people to try the sport, which he said is rewarding for people of all skill levels.
“Your environment constantly moves ... it's really exciting to react to doing things as the river changes around you,” Mr Carter said.
The winner of the mass start race was Jonathan Davis, with Rohan Borojević and Tom Graham runners up. The slalom title went to Rohan Borojević, with David Borojević and Richard Guy runners up.
