“The girls came out really confident and aggressive and on the front foot,” Potter said.
“They did everything to help us execute our game plan perfectly – played together and played tough and really set it up in that first half.
“Going in up 21 at half-time put us in a great spot and even though Geelong made some really strong runs in that second half we did enough to hang on.
“It was a great result for the club in front of a capacity crowd of over 1100 people here to cheer us on over the line so I’m pretty stoked.”
Potter said their offence was great but the team defence was outstanding for 40 minutes in holding at Geelong side with so much talent to 68 points for the game.
“That’s the difference this week compared to last week – defensively we were so much tougher which allowed us to get some momentum in the game, flow into some offensive purpose and then the girls could play with some confidence and really attack – I couldn’t be prouder of them.”
Potter said Geelong made a big push in the second half but the Torns were able to hold on and withstand it.
”When Geelong made a great push our girls played some really big minutes to hang on in that game and showed why they deserve to be in that SEABL conference final next week.
“I can’t fault anyone in our group – I think everyone who got on the court were brilliant and every girl that didn’t get on the court was still brilliant on the sideline with the amount of effort they gave cheering the girls on and communicating from the sidelines.
“I can’t single anyone out – that was a true team effort in every sense of the word.”
The Tornadoes get another crack at Kilsyth in next weekend’s conference grand final which Potter said they were excited about.
“We’ve lost there twice the last two years in finals and sitting in their empty changerooms after those games was not a whole lot of fun.
“The girls are certainly fired up and confident to go back there and I definitely think we have the team to do it if we come out with the same mindset that we did in the first half tonight.
“I think we can win the southern conference which would be a massive achievement given how tough it is and how tough our season has been.”
