Members of a lost and found pets group often swapped stories about sightings of Bill, a medium sized dog who frequents Summerhill.
Especially concerned members branched off and formed the 'Help find Bill' Facebook group, which has about 35 members.
They update each other on sightings, and try to feed him when they can.
Summerhill resident Tania Purton has been keeping an eye on Bill for more than four months.
She last saw him about two weeks ago, and described the emaciated, light-mustard coloured dog as a "walking corpse".
Due to his fear of people, catching Bill and being able to pass him onto the council or a shelter is almost impossible.
Ms Purton encouraged anyone with information about Bill, including his original name, to contact the Help find Bill group on Facebook.
