The school’s GP room was lined with science stations featuring circuits, magnets and volcanos as Westbury students conducted experiments for a strong crowd of onlookers including students from Deloraine, Bracknell and Mole Creek.

Science teacher and organiser Angela Ellston congratulated the students on rising to the task of becoming learning leaders. 

“We've done (the expo) for the last three years but this year is the first year that we've invited community members and other schools,” Mrs Ellston said. 

“We thought we'd go that little bit further because we want to extend our school's ability in science and being able to teach people within the community, not just our own students that they're familiar with.”

Acting principal Maree Duggan said the expo had drawn about 300 students, teachers, community members and scientists into the school.

“It encourages students to want to try more science and it raises the general profile of science within our general community,” Mrs Duggan said.
