But that is exactly what happened for the 37-year-old from Cressy.
Morris went to the Australian championships in Bendigo from July 29 to August 6, as part of a Tasmanian team.
“We had 10 men and 10 women who went over – we competed in teams’ events, doubles and mixed doubles and then singles,” Morris said.
“I won the Australian singles and our team for men and women finished fourth overall out of the seven states that compete.”
Morris defeated West Australian Kim Kelly in the women’s final in a best of nine-game final.
“I was very emotional after I won – I cried and it just meant a lot to have that title for 12 months,” she said.
“Another lady from Cressy, Leanne Faulkner actually won the women’s title the previous two years.”
Morris said she didn’t expect to do that well going into the national championships.
“The expectation was to throw well and be happy with an OK result – it was very unexpected to make it that far and I would have been happy to even make the top eight.
“Surprisingly I wasn’t nervous during the final – I was nervous before we went up on stage but I didn’t have any nerves at all during the final – I don’t really know how or why but I was just very calm and steady. It’s the best result I’ve ever had.”
