At its meeting in July, the council voted to not support the George Town Super Stage, after concerns were raised about the event falling on Anzac Day in 2017.
Mr Perry said had provided more infromation during meetings with council officers and with members of the George Town RSL sub-branch shortly after the council’s original decision.
“It was all very positive and everyone agreed that we could work together,” he said.
“From our perspective we totally appreciate and have full respect for Anzac Day and we would do all we can to facilitate a suitable outcome for everyone.”
In a letter to the council, attached to the August meeting agenda, George Town RSL sub-branch president Don Mackrill said he fully endorsed Targa Tasmania provided five conditions were met. It included specific details surrounding road closures, setting out of hay bales, access to the memorial hall and adequate parking measures. Mr Perry said Targa Tasmania would meet all of the conditions and eagerly await the result of Wednesday’s council meeting.
“We’re hopeful that the decision will go the right way and it will be business as usual at George Town but you just never know,” he said.
“We’re very loyal to George Town, we have a fantastic relationship there… and it would be a sad day for the event and a sad day for George Town if it didn’t proceed.”
Mr Perry said organisers had fruitful meetings with other councils who had asked about future opportunities after the publicity of George Town’s original decision, but none wanted to undercut the iconic stage.
“The other councils have been supportive of George Town and understand that it can happen… if George Town do reverse the decision then they will accept and appreciate that,” he said.
