Tasmanian company Tas Span will begin work on a new bridge, which it is hoped will be completed by Christmas. The council will cover the $1.2 million dollar cost of the project.
“What we’re doing now is awarding a tender to get that bridge replaced as quickly as we can,” Meander Valley mayor Craig Perkins said. “The council moved quickly because there are a dozen houses that have been significantly impacted.”
Residents have been travelling on a temporary access road through private property since June, adding an extra half an hour to their journey.
“The other two roads that they would otherwise journey on are are also damaged and are still not yet open,” Mr Perkins said.
The June floods saw record rainfall in the area, resulting in significant damage to infrastructure.
