The daughter of the legendary Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin said she wanted to celebrate her birthday by visiting some of her favourite locations, including Tasmania.
“My family has loved it there (Tasmania) forever and it’s one place that will always feel like a home to me,” Irwin said.
“The wild places, the people, awesome food, gorgeous wildlife.”
A regular visitor to the state, Irwin said Tasmania would always remind her of her dad.
“My mum and dad both did a lot of documentary filming for The Crocodile Hunter in Tasmania and I know that he loved it there,” she said.
“He thought the surf was terrific and the wildlife was extraordinary.
“I think that’s a big reason why we visit so much, because it is a place where we have so many memories of being with him, having fun together.”
Joined by her partner Chandler Powell, the 18-year-old said her trip had been extra special.
“It was Chandler’s very first time to Tasmania and I felt really blessed that he came with me on the adventure,” she said.
“We loved hiking and searching for wildlife every day together, and we even got to see some snow at Cradle Mountain.”
A lover of all things Tasmania, the passionate animal advocate is part of the national fight to save our Tassie devil.
“I truly believe that education is key. If we are able to help get Tasmanian Devils into people’s hearts, we will be able to help raise more funds and awareness for their protection,” she said.
“Between the local efforts and the support from the mainland the devils are certainly being given a fighting chance.”
Spending a week in state, she also visited Hobart before heading back to Queensland.
“My next stop was our conservation property in Western Queensland, where I spent time with kangaroos and emus, before journeying to the Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve in far north Queensland,” she said.
“We hold our annual crocodile research trip there to study these awesome apex predators.
“I think this has been the best birthday I’ve ever had because the celebrations just keep going with all of this wonderful time that I’m spending at my favourite places, with the people that I love.”
Irwin said she would be back exploring Tasmania “as soon as possible”.
“I know that I’ll be back and I cannot wait,” she said.
