Just Cats Tasmania Director Rachel Beech said she was hoping to find new families for six cats who had been at the shelter for more than two years.
“They are less likely to be chosen for adoption from the shelter because obviously we have cats that are extremely social and they're the first ones people tend to go for, whereas these guys are sort of forgotten,” Mrs Beech said.
“Most of them are sponsored but now the next step is that it'd be really nice to find a permanent foster carer.
“What that would mean is that the cats would live with somebody in a home environment - preferably indoors - and then Just Cats would still have them under their wing for any medical expenses during their lifetime.”
Mrs Beech said while foster carers couldn’t expect miracles from day one, the cats would become more social given time in a stable and loving environment.
“If somebody thinks that they've got room for one more cat or two in the home and they're not worried about them being social, it would be great to hear from them.
“(The cats) have been here for so long so it would be nice to see them in a home.”
The shelter is also looking to find homes for a number of cats with special needs.
