The issue has been the source of much frustration for Scamander residents, with business owners expressing grievances that the alert was negatively impacting the town's tourism market and redirecting visitors to other locations.
Last month, TasWater released a Scamander water quality update, announcing the community information sessions and assuring customers that an upcoming infrastructure upgrade at the Riverview Road plant would see the permanent boil water alert lifted.
“Taswater continues to work towards a solution to the existing water quality issues in Scamander,” the statement read.
“Over the next few weeks we will be undertaking additional works in Riverview Road.
“These works will commence in late July to early August and will be followed by a period of comprehensive water quality tests.
“The results from these tests will form the basis of a submission to the Department of Health and Human Services for the existing permanent boil water alert to be lifted.”
Construction works are expected to take eight weeks, while the water testing program is expected to take a further 12 weeks.
The statement also sought to refute claims that the plant's close proximity to floodplains was a factor in the town's water issues.
“While there has been a significant amount of discussion in the community about the actual location of the water treatment plant, the location of the plant has no bearing on water quality.
“Relocating the treatment plant would be extremely expensive with little overall benefit.”
TasWater will hold its first community information session at the Scamander Sports Complex from noon to 2pm on Wednesday.
It will host a second session at the same venue from 2pm to 4pm on Saturday.
Anyone unable to attend the sessions is encouraged to contact TasWater by phone on 136992 or by email at communityengagement@taswater.com.au
