Consequently, it should be no surprise that Meander Valley's annual art exhibition Meandering is storming purposefully towards an important milestone in a manner somewhat contradictory to its name.
The exhibition will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year when a new collection of paintings inspired by the picturesque Meander Valley are hung at the Country Club's Mezzanine Gallery from September 24 to October 30.
For this year's exhibition, which is open to Meander Valley residents and members of the Meander Valley Art Society or Launceston Art Society, artists will be required to submit work relating to the theme 'vital signs'.
Launceston Art Society publicity officer Shirley Pitt said the exhibition would again provide some exciting incentives for artists, with eight prizes including the Meander Valley Council's $3000 acquisitive prize.
“There's a major prize, four highly commended awards, a novice award, an encouragement award and an essence of the valley award so there's quite a few prizes,” Ms Pitt said.
Ms Pitt said the exhibition would once again see her organisation send artists into schools across the region to pass on valuable skills to the next generation.
“Members of the Launceston Art Society contribute back to the Meander Valley community by doing the Artists in Schools program where our members go out and take art lessons with students in the primary schools in the Meander Valley so it's a reciprocal agreement.
“Over the years It has proven to be a most enjoyable, fun filled experience for both the students and the visiting artists.”
About 50 paintings are expected to be included in this year’s Meandering exhibition.
Applications to the exhibition must be submitted by August 19, however physical works are not required until September 20.
Entry forms are available from the Launceston Art Society website and the Meander Valley Council website.
