Organiser Renae Smith said she wanted to create a “singles scene” in Tasmania and decided to host a series of speed dating events.
The first night will be trialed in Launceston on Friday and has already sold out.
Moving to Launceston from Hobart, Ms Smith said she started the events to encourage people to move away from online dating.
”I think people are over the online dating traps and scams,” she said.
“This way it is a lot safer, you aren’t committed to them having your details, they only get your details if you want them to.
“You know what you're getting, you know what you are looking at, you are literally sitting there face to face with that person.”
During the event, 12 women and 12 men meet at the selected venue.
Each single will then have the chance to ‘date’ six people face to face for five minutes.
”Then we will break, have something to eat and they will date the rest of the six people,” Ms Smith said.
“As you go through you have a little match card and you tick if you like the other person.
“If they tick you then your details will be exchanged.”
After the trial, the next event will be held in August.
“It will be for the age bracket 23 to 37 years-old, however if someone is three years older or younger, they are still welcome,” Ms Smith said.
In September the organisation will hit the road offering the service to Hobart locals.
“It will be the first event for Hobart and will be for 30 to 50 year-olds,” Ms Smith said.
“I’ll be announcing a Launceston event for that older age bracket in the coming days.”
Hoping to expand the business further, Ms Smith said she was working on some new concepts.
“I have so many ideas on top of creating more speed dating nights,” she said.
“I think people need to socialise, we need to bring back socialising, talk, communicate and enjoy life.”
Beyond speed dating, Ms Smith said she was planning a Christmas dinner for singles as well as a single parent dating night.
Interested singles can stay up to date with upcoming events on the website at www.meetyourmatch.com.au or by following ‘Meet Your Match’ on social media.
“We have a Facebook group ‘Speed Dating Task’ and it’s free to subscribe to the website,” Ms Smith said.
