The latest story is set 19 years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the seventh and final novel in the series.
While there is no talk of a new movie, Harry Potter and the Curse Child is the script used for the stage play which premiered in London on July 30.
The script was then made available for purchase in book form on July 31, which is Harry Potter’s birthday.
Birchalls book shop in Launceston celebrated the release with a party for Potter on Sunday.
Operations Manager Will Cassidy said the series had captured the community’s imagination, with hundreds of locals having pre-ordered the book ahead of its launch.
“No matter what age you are, it’s a wonderful series,” Mr Cassidy said.
“Not only did it entertain an entire generation but it worked its magic and got children excited about reading.”
Mr Cassidy said it was exciting for fans to have the series continue.
“Honestly, JK Rowling is full of surprises and we should never underestimate what’s going to happen next,” he said.
The new book reveals Harry an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children.
While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted.
As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.
