Andrew Compagne and Jervis Foley did the damage at Mitsubishi Park, impressing coach Roger Mies.

“Somerset had the better chances in the first half and just before half-time we had another edition to our long-term injury list with Aaron Mattarozzi breaking his ankle,” Mies said.

“I think the boys really got some motivation out of that and lifted in the second half.”

Mies said City were now in control of their own destiny and that their next outing against Northern Rangers would be one to watch.

“We only beat them 2-1 away last time so we are expecting another hard match,” he said.

LAUNCESTON UNITED drew with Ulverstone in a high-scoring affair at Birch Avenue.

Both outfits hit the back of the net three times in round 18.

United captain Christopher Budgeon scored one, while Trent Mitchell yet again proved potent netting a double.

“We started really slow and they caught us three times on the break and had three goals against us in the first 15 minutes,” coach Robert Murray said.

“The way we fought back and got back into it was impressive.

“We missed a penalty late so we could’ve quite easily won the game.”

Cosmo Cox-Haines, Edward Bidwell and Timothy Read finished with one goal each for Ulverstone.

NORTHERN RANGERS took down Riverside 2-1 at Windsor Park to jump above them on the ladder.

Coach Marshall Pooley scored two for the sixth-placed victors, while it was Olympic striker Ryan McCarragher that stuck late in the match to give his side some hope.

“The guys played well, it was pretty much a team effort in the end,” Pooley said.

“It has been a tough month for us so it was a really good result.”

In other results, Devonport defeated Burnie 7-1 at Valley Road.
