The Looking After Me campaign is encouraging grade three to six children to engage in physical activity, healthy eating and nutrition to lead longer adult lives.
The Department of Education has rubber-stamped the Tasmanian-first Hawks program announced on Friday at Invermay Primary School, but is set to be rolled across 175 schools in the state.
“I’m here to get around the kids and give them some tips about leading an elite lifestyle to get out, be active and healthy,” Hawks player Grant Birchall, who grew up in Devonport, said.
Hawthorn president Richard Garvey said the program aligns with the club’s values.
“We’re thrilled to be associated with this program. We think education is essentially for children for these sorts of lifestyles,” he said.
“We want to see our players to encourage the children as being seen as role models for good choices.”
