The centre offers a range of exhibitions, from holographic views of the Tasmanian mines to the history of the Ruin Site, historically known as one of the world’s largest mine pumping systems.
Heritage centre administrator Sharon Sikkema said she believed the 10-year anniversary of the Beaconsfield Mine collapse had played a role in the numbers.
“It obviously put Beaconsfield to the front of people’s minds again,” she said.
“Twelve months ago we opened up the mine yard, which was the mine where the gold was being extracted from.”
