Alderman Finlay remarks many, many young people haven’t had the opportunity to experience what great education can give them ... and by supporting this project many young people will benefit.
Surely relocating the campus from Newnham campus, 10 minutes away, to one near the city centre will not be the impetus for more young people from the Launceston area enrolling in university.
Ms Finlay also noted that the council would be scrupulous to allay any concerns about sewage, water or parking.
Does this mean ratepayers will not make any financial contribution to sewer, water, parking or other site infrastructure?
Considering the value of the land being given, one would hope not.
In return for handing over the site, as a means of giving more young people the experience of great education, wouldn’t it be reasonable for the Council to ask the university to provide a number of full, free scholarships annually to young people from under-privileged families in Launceston, and also to include in the arrangement that during times not in use by the university, it will make its campus infrastructure available for use by the council and the Launceston public?
One would think so.

Bowel cancer screening
YES, the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme is a great idea and would save lives if you can manage to get an appointment for a colonoscopy within an appropriate time when given a positive result.
I know of one lady waiting over 100 days to get an appointment at the Launceston General Hospital after doing her test and getting a positive result.
The only reason she got in then was because her GP made some noises and yes she has bowel cancer.
Waiting all that time is completely unacceptable.
