TasTAFE Drysdale Education Manager Christopher McGimpsey said the Great Chefs Series was about showcasing both vocational education and regional innovation.
“It's about positioning people, place and produce at the centre of everything,” he said.
Mr McGimpsey said students from Events, Tourism, Hospitality and Commercial Cookery programs in Launceston had taken part.
He said they had been given the unique opportunity to work alongside and learn from chef Wakuda, owner of Tetsuya’s Restaurant in Sydney.
“The one on one aspect and the interaction with the students has been wonderful,” Mr McGimpsey said.
He said 121 people booked to attend Friday’s dinner.
The menu included a selection of delicious produce including Tasmanian Abalone and each course was complemented with Tasmanian wine from Holm Oak Vineyards in Rowella.
“It’s all about bringing new things to the table,” Mr McGimpsey said.
The next dinner in the series will be held on Friday September 30 with chef Dan Hong.
