Earlier this year, Labor and the Communications, Electrical and Plumbers Union accused Health Minister Michael Ferguson of exposing workers to what they called “potentially deadly” mould in demountable buildings on the hospital site.
But a WorkSafe Tasmania investigation has cleared contractor Fairbrother of any wrongdoing after finding that appropriate action was taken once mould was identified.
Mr Ferguson called on opposition leader Bryan Green and opposition health spokeswoman Rebecca White to apologise for their repeated assertions that the mould had made workers sick.
Shadow Attorney-General Lara Giddings said the party was not sorry: “We’re elected as an opposition to ask questions of a minister. If the minister doesn’t like those questions that’s his problem, not ours.
“Of course we are happy that there is not a link between the mould and the illnesses.”
