Friends of Machen’s Reserve, NRM North and the City of Launceston came together to revegetate a corner of the reserve. “The trees will... be habitat for little animals and birds and it just makes the environment nice for people to walk through,” said co-ordinator of Friends of Machen’s Reserve, Lynne Mockridge.
NRM North Regional Landcare Facilitator, Alison Hugo said, “national tree day is a great opportunity for community members to get out and get to know their local parks and reserves.”
She said having green spaces in urban areas had multiple benefits, including creating healthy habitats and biodiversity for wildlife.
Ms Hugo said community landcare groups are vital to ensuring projects like this happen, enhancing the environment for the whole community.
There will be a range of tree planting events throughout the week for National Tree Day on Sunday, 31 July.
