The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for the central North, West, North East, South East, and King Island.
The North and North-East can expected northwesterly winds of 70km/h – with gusts of 110km/h – on Monday night.
Westerly winds of the same strength will hit the remainder of the state on Monday night and Tuesday morning.
There are also flood watches in place for Northern river basins.
The winds come as part of a cold front crossing the state, and a deep low passing to the south on Tuesday morning.
The State Emergency Service and Tasmania Police advise that people should:
- Supervise children closely
- Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment
- Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings
- Manage pets and livestock
- Be prepared in case of power outages
- Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving
- Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice
