Life member and President of the Volunteer Board of Management Peter Dunphy has been involved with the Launceston centre since 1964 and said it had more potential.
“If you look around Launceston, there’s nowhere that has a facility like it,” Mr Dunphy said.
“It has been a lot of hard work over many years to get it to the stage it’s at now, but it’s still not big enough to cater for the amount of people we have come through the doors.”
The centre is responsible for its own funding, which is generated through hall hire fees.
“It’s disappointing to have no assistance from government or local council because I want to see it continue and to see the facility go forwards not backwards,” Mr Dunphy said.
“It would be ideal to have a new court and new seating and the lighting replaced.”
Mr Dunphy said anybody wanting to volunteer could contact the centre.
